I will be frank, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Only a few clicks and a client can place an order using a freelancer according to a specific set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a cost. A huge one.
That is only the couple freelance platforms at which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way that they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and why I decided to give up on the platform altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
(I have been read guiding her building up a reputable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above with every previous purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I am just an observer.)
In this case, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her emblem gig, which seemed to be similar to any other... or so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (that is usually a part of the costlier package).
The customer"loved" one of those concepts so we moved to deliver her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the final description. Soon afterwards, things got a little weird.
The customer came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something which is clearly not available as a member of her gig.
In my advice, my buddy decided to deliver the additional work, although not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the client responded with even more demands and a few changes to the social networking files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a reply and reach to Fiverr support for help, the client did finally go ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she wasn't Fiverr Review: How to Find Virtual Assistants that Don't Suck - Crowd ... kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the customer paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Naturally, the payment was accompanied by yet another danger.
Now, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and seek this person down so I could punch them from the face.
However, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr support would step in and rescue my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
After the response came back from Fiverr support, they told that they couldn't Fiverr 2018 review - why 9 stars? - Website Planet force the buyer to accept the order.
Okay, that's fair enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it, technically.)
They also suggested drawing up a listing for the purchaser to reveal the job has been completed in accordance to the gig requirements.
Honestly, this reply just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email the client was hoping to extort her to get free work outside the agreed periods, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Obviously, it was not about the work, it was about seeking protection against an abusive customer who was intentionally pushing his luck.
Their reply did not provide us some assurance that Fiverr really understood , and even at this point we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At the same time, she also responded to the buyers newest danger, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the feedback was changed/removed.
(Again, this can be feedback which was obviously and intentionally left to intimidate her into providing function out of the agreed provisions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, appropriate?
Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Because she'd asked the customer to change their feedback, she was no more entitled to some assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done before her final message was now being swept under the rug -- like never happened in any way.
Fiverr basically opted to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she had worked so hard to build up.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it's knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers without a sprinkling of repercussion.
And believe me, there are loads of buyers doing precisely that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
But as most of this was happening, I did some research to see if any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Very quickly, I discovered a number of nearly equal cases on the Fiverr forum dated years back. (that's correct, decades.)
This is obviously something which's been happening for a long time and it stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.
When there's 1 thing I have learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a project, or how hard you worked on it, or perhaps how long you handled communication in a dispute, when it actually boils down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a clear cut case in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out at the top. It takes it one tiny thing that you"did no way" in accordance with their conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Taking a look at the signs, it is obvious to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet remains keen to settle back and let it happen.
A Last Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reevaluate your current support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can put all that time and effort in building up an account and also over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be shot down by the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I do not want to abandon Fiverr. I don't wish to be telling folks to prevent your system.
But after everything that has occurred, you haven't left me any decision.
Until something is done in order to protect freelancers from this type of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do anything I could to stop others from falling victim to a one-sided support team.
The second you actually do something about it and provide freelancers a means to fight , I'll be happy to update this post.
